Women With Migraines More Predisposed To To Suffer From Depression

Man suffering from headache, in particular migraine, are in a greater number inclined to suffer from depression, feel worn-out, and have a host of other bad physical symptoms, according to a medical investigation published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The clinical study involved 1800 man who buy seroquel at headache clinics in nine states. Of the man surveyed, 262 reported incidental headache (fewer than 15 headaches monthly) and 439 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the people were diagnosed with migraines.

The medical trial found woman with chronic headache were four times more likely than those with episodic headache to report symptoms of major Psychotic Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also three times more likely to report a high degree of symptoms linked to headache, pain or puzzle during intercourse.

Among patients diagnosed with severely disabling migraine, the medical research found the likelihood of major Depression increased 32-fold if the women also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms should stir up or be a manifestation of major Major Depression in patient with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy maxalt and Depression would heighten pain perception,” said medical research author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This relation between migraine and major Psychotic Depression suggests a common neurobiology.”

Tietjen says medical trial are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Psychotic Depression can be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Indifferent of what’s causing the relation between migraine and Major Depression, psychiatric disease such as Major Depression complicates headache treatment and can call forth poorer consequences for headache management,” said Tietjen.

The medical study was countenanced, in part, by the American Headache Society, which considers 18 million American women suffer from headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 20,000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to improving woman care through instruction and medical investigation. A neurologist is a osteopath specialized on diagnosing, treating and managing disorders of the brain and nervous system such as apoplexy, Alzheimer’s disorder, epilepsy, Parkinson disease, and frequent sclerosis.
